OASIS Network (Outreach Assisting Students In Schools)

A grassroots, volunteer-driven organization, providing basic necessities to underprivileged students in Hillsborough County Public Schools. They provide clothing, shoes, hygiene items and other basic necessities to students in need of assistance. When a social worker identifies a child lacking basic necessities, the social worker visits one of their facilities to select whatever items the child may need-- free of charge! OASIS Network was formed in 2001 by women who had volunteered in the school system for years, and had become increasingly concerned with the overwhelming number of children in desperate need of life's basic necessities. This year OASIS opened clothing closets at a small number of schools. In 2002, a central site opened in New Tampa, serving more schools in the county. In 2007, OASIS opened a second full-size facility in south Tampa, serving social workers in the southern part of the county and in 2008, OASIS expanded into a third full-size facility in east Tampa. In 2015, at the request of the district and school social workers, to better serve students in the east and south areas of the county, OASIS opened its fourth site in Seffner.

A Brighter Community, Preschool and Family Support Center

More than just childcare, A Brighter Community (ABC) has been a neighborhood resource for more than 90 years; in fact, it is the oldest non-profit pre-school still running in the Tampa area. We serve 3, 4, and 5 year-old children who are at-risk for school failure and have developmental delays due to the effects of poverty. The parents and caregivers of these children are faced with challenges of housing, employment and nutrition, as well as meeting the daily needs of their children. The program provides support to approximately 125 families annually whose average income is well below the national guidelines for poverty.
